Carolyn Idabell Romey, of Sandy, Oregon, passed away at the
age of 89 peacefully on April 14th, 2026, surrounded by her
daughters Ruth & Pam, sons Joe, Andrew, & Tom, and granddaughter Dawna.
Carolyn was born in Yakima, WA on November 28th,
1936 to Glenn and Annabell Mattson. They moved to Santiam, OR where she met her
future husband Dan Romey, before graduating High School in 1955. They were
married on August 14th, 1955, in Gates, OR. She and Dan along with their
growing family lived in several locations throughout Oregon and Alaska over the
next 35 years, before settling in Corbet/Sandy, OR in 1979.
Carolyn worked at Camp Howard and
neighboring summer camps with devotion and enthusiasm for the children &
staff for nearly 20 years.
Her life’s joys encompassed a robust passion for reading, a flourishing
flower, fruit, and vegetable garden, beautiful quilting and stitched art, and
was a respected goat farmer. As a lifelong devout Catholic, her light and smile
were found in the beauty of God’s smallest creations.
Carolyn was known for her selfless service, sense of community,
and extreme love for her family. She is deeply missed and remembered by her
extraordinary friends, family, and communities.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Rebecca Rose, granddaughter
Twila Rose, granddaughter Shay Lee, Parents Glenn and Annabell Mattson, sister
Pat Cannon, and great granddaughter Ella Marie. She is survived by her twelve
children: Kenneth Randall Romey, Joseph Daniel Romey, Linus Paul Romey, Pamelia
Anne Romey DeVore, Brian Daniel Romey, Samuel Amos Romey, Andrew John Romey,
Bernard Timothy Romey, Thomas Edward Romey, Ruth Ester Romey, Martin Glen
Romey, and Travis Joel Romey, along with her immensely loved grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren.
Dates for mass service and a celebration of life gathering are
being coordinated.
