In Loving Memory Of

Charles William Hiett

June 13th, 1941 - May 14th, 2025

Obituary

Charles William Hiett, known affectionately as “Bill” to friends and “Billy” to those who knew him in childhood, was born in Baker, Oregon, to Walter F. Hiett and Dorothy W. Hiett. He passed away on May 14, 2025.

Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force as an Air Policeman, where he specialized in training dogs for military service. His dedication to canine companions carried into civilian life, where he and his beloved wife Linn K. Hiett became lifelong advocates of the Puli dog breed. Together, they bred Pulik under the name Mt. Hood Puli, a kennel known and respected for its care, quality, and devotion to the breed. They were active for decades in the Puli Club of America, contributing significantly to the breed’s preservation and appreciation.

Professionally, Bill worked for many years as a Shipping Manager at Williams Controls, where he was known for his reliability, integrity, and strong work ethic. He was also a proud member of UAW Local 492, standing in solidarity with his fellow workers and supporting labor rights throughout his career.

Bill was also known for his wonderful sense of humor, which he shared generously with friends, waitresses, and complete strangers alike.

He was preceded in death by his wife Linn in 2015, his parents Walter and Dorothy, his sister Bonnie, his brothers James, John, and Floyd (Wade) R. Hiett, and his sister Mary B. Thompson.

He is survived by his sister Dorothy Dell Taylor and her daughter Donna Pahukoa, both of Marysville, Washington, and by his niece Polly Smith-Kleve of Vancouver, Washington.

Bill will be remembered for his quiet strength, his loyalty, and his deep love for animals —especially the Pulik that enriched his life and the lives of many others.

A Celebration of Life for Bill will be held at the Oregon Lavender Farm, 20949 S. Harris Road, Oregon City, Oregon, on June 21, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
Please RSVP to jim@libertynatural.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations or memorial gifts may be made to the Puli Club of America or the Oregon Humane Society.

Oh how we loved Bill! Bill is sadly missed. We thank his wonderful friend, Jim Dierking, for helping Bill when times were low. Bill and Linn were our best friends; we met years ago through our pulik. It was in the ring at a dog show in PA! We became instant friends. During their lifetime, they were awarded the Puli Club of America's highest honor for contributing and advancing the most for the breed. We spent vacations together enjoying especially San Diego, CA and New Smyrna Beach in FL. We certainly feel Bill's absence. We chatted on the phone weekly. His first puli, Toby, waited for him at the Rainbow Bridge. They are all together now. John & Cindy Boright
