Adelaide Silva Wheeler died at her son and daughter- in- law’s home in Sandy on Saturday May 21, 2011. She was 90.
A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose, California.
She was born, Adelaide Cordeiro on December 5, 1920 to Manuel and Palmira Cordeiro in Lowell, Massachusetts. As a young child, the family moved to Portugal where Adelaide was raised on the Azore Islands and received her schooling.
As a young adult, Adelaide returned to the United States and made her home in California where she met and later married her future husband, Manuel A. Silva. They were married in 1949 and raised their family in San Jose , California. In October of 1989, Manuel preceded her in death.
Adelaide was later re-married to Fred Wheeler. He preceded her in death in 1996. Adelaide remained living on her own in San Jose until October of 2010 when her health began to decline and she moved to Sandy.
Adelaide loved her Chihuahua’s, playing computer slot games and enjoyed caring for her home.
Surviving are her sons, Manuel Silva of San Martin, California and Tony Silva of Sandy, Oregon; her sisters, Pauline Avila (age 93) of Santa Clara, California and Olivia Marks (age 92) of Vancouver, Washington; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
