Sandy resident and U.S. Coast Guard-Merchant Marine veteran, Aleck Nicolopoulos died on May 9, 2016. He was 88. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland on May 18th, 2016 at 2:30 pm.
Alexios Nicolopoulos was born in Karnasi, Greece to John and Angelo Nicolopoulos on July 11, 1927. He grew up in Pasadena, California where he attended school before enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard-Merchant Marines in August of 1945. When WWII ended, Aleck was honorably discharged and he moved to Los Angeles where two of his daughters, Angie and Georgia were born. He remained in the southern California area until moving to Las Vegas where he met Lori Kalk, then together they came to Oregon permanently in 1963 where their daughter Ann Marie was born. Aleck and Lori were married on August 22, 1989 in Hood River.
Aleck held many jobs, but was best described as an entrepreneur. He enjoyed golfing, gambling, telling stories and playing the dice game 10,000.
Survivors include; wife Lori; children Angie Nicolopoulos and Ann Marie (Thomas) Scheible; grandchildren April Johnson, Summer Kuehner and Keaton and Kyle Scheible; great grandchild Aurora Rose Kuehner. Preceded in death was his daughter, Georgia Dutton.
