Longtime Corbett resident, Ardis Baker died at her home on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the age of 84.
A Funeral Service will be held at Aims Community Church located at 44510 SE Connett Road in Corbett on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. A private burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Corbett.
A viewing will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00.
She was born, Ardis Catherine Mershon on June 2, 1924 in Portland to Ernest and Magdaleine (Pulliam) Mershon. She was raised in Portland where she began her elementary education. The family later moved to Corbett, where she graduated from Columbian (Corbett) High School in 1942.
On D-Day, June 6, 1944 Ardis married Navy Sailor, James R. Baker in Richmond, Virginia. After his discharge, they made their home on the family farm in Corbett where they lived for over 63 years together and raised their two daughters.
Ardis was a wife, mother, home maker and worked on the family farm. She was a member of the Aims Community Church, Mt. Hood Snowmobile Club, Friends of the Vista House, Corbett Alumni Association, Corbett Pioneer Association, Crown Point Country Historical Society and American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters, Pat Lucas, Linda Traxler and her husband Larry; her sister Carol Quinn all of Corbett; her grandchildren, Jamie, Chris and Rhonda Lucas, Pete, Rob, Sam and Stephanie Traxler and her great grandsons, Brandon Cohoon and Seth Lucas. Ardis is preceded in death by her husband James on December 17, 2007 and her grandson, Jeff Lucas on June 28, 2005 in Afghanistan.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made the Jeff Lucas Memorial Stadium Fund – 33305 SE Historic Columbia River Highway, Corbett, Oregon 97019. The stadium is to be erected this summer.
