Barbara Mennell age 77 of Rhododendron, Oregon passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010 in Brightwood.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 3pm at the Mt Hood Lions Club Hwy 26 in Welches.
She was born in Missoula, Montana on March 6, 1933 and was the daughter of Ken & Betty Beechel. Barbara was a successful executive for Intel Corporation where she rose through the ranks during her 27 years of employment. In 1991, she received the Governor’s Award for waste reduction in Oregon’s rivers. An active woman to the core her hobbies and interests were many including golf, skiing, hiking, snow shoeing, swimming, dancing, painting & traveling the world. Barbara was a member of the Red Hat Society, a cancer survivor’s group & volunteered for the Star Reading Program at Welches Elementary School. Her memorable sneeze and love of laughing made her unique.
She was married to Michael Mennell in 1960. They were later divorced. Barbara is survived by her 3 children, Elizabeth Allmer of Hillsboro, Cheri Miller of Wallowa & Michael Mennell of Oregon City; sister Jacque Beechel of Moab, Utah & brother Tom Beechel of Wildomar; California; her grandchildren Philip, Ashley, Calli & Teagan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The family wishes to thank Mom’s friends and neighbors who’s support has been a blessing over the past year.
