Berta Louise Everest was born in Grangeville, Idaho. She was the eldest of three children born to Burt and Lillian Everest.
She was preceded in death by her younger brothers, Charles and Tommy Everest.
They grew up on a ranch, which fostered her love of animals. She played the flute with her high school band and cherished her collection of flute figurines. After earning a bachelor’s degree in education, she dedicated years to teaching.
After meeting her husband Larry Hubbard, they together settled in Milwaukie, Oregon. She became a stay-at-home mother and doted on her two daughters. She never met a stranger and had a warm smile for everyone she greeted.
She loved card games and had weekly bridge games with her friends. She cross-country skied with her family around Mt. Hood where they had a cabin. She was an accomplished seamstress creating beautiful clothes, and crafts.
Later, Berta Lou married Jerry Couch. They also lived in Milwaukie, and they loved to travel together. She was an avid gardener, and especially adored roses. Her and Jerry square danced weekly. Her grandchildren, and later great-grandchildren who called her “Bear Boo” were the center of her world. She cherished them immensely.
She is survived by her daughters Teresa Hubbard and Nancy Lindquist; grandchildren Brandon Lindquist and Lauren Moore; great-grandchildren Austyn, Harper and Keller.
She lived in her Milwaukie home for over 52 years and was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist church for almost 59 years until her death. Berta Lou’s faith was deep, and she has now found eternal peace in Heaven with the Lord.
