Longtime Sandy resident, Beth Matheny passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the age of 89.
She was born Elizabeth Euphemia Sponsler to Leonard and Bertha (Darrah) Sponsler on April 14, 1928 in Hebron, Nebraska. She was raised and received her Elementary and High School education in Hebron.
On June 1, 1946, Beth was united in marriage to Wilson O. Matheny in Kansas. They made their home in Nebraska and had a son, Michael. When Michael was an infant, they moved to Oregon. They lived in the Rockwood area for a short time and had 2 other children, Patrick and Nancy. It was in 1953, that the family moved to Sandy and made their permanent home.
Beth enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, knitting, watching baseball and reading. In her younger years, she volunteered her time with the County Election Board.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
Survivors include her son, Patrick Matheny, her daughter Nancy Worlein and her husband Doug; her brother, Lonnie Sponsler; 3 grandchildren, Tina, Chris and Travis and 1 great grandson, Kevin. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilson in 1981 and her son Michael in 2016.
