Former Welches resident, Bette Riley, died in a Portland hospital on September 19, 2009. She was 80.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, October 1, at the Hoodland Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
She was born Bette Jane Olsen on October 3, 1928 in Racine, Wisconsin to Einar and Ruby Olson. She was raised in Wisconsin where she received her education.
On December 7, 1946 she married William H. Stark in Wisconsin. They lived in Racine where they began their family. In 1956, they moved to Minnesota. She and William were later divorced.
In 1971, she came to Oregon where she married Eugene “Bud” Riley on December 20, 1973 in Gresham. They lived in Gresham until 1982, when moving to Sandy. In 1992, they moved to Welches to make their home. Bud preceded her in death in 1998.
Bette was a member of the Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and the Sandy VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crafts.
Surviving is her daughter, Sharon Stark of Woodville, Wisconsin; son, Bruce Stark of Cape Coral, Florida; brother, George Olson of Apple Valley, Minnesota and Winn Olson of Ripon, Wisconsin; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
