Boring resident Betty Shokey died at her home on Saturday, April 18, 2009. She was 70.
A funeral mass will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at St. Michaels Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham.
Betty Anne Leber was born March 6, 1939 in Gresham, Oregon to Joseph and Grace (Hoar) Leber. She graduated from Gresham High School in 1957. After high school she attended beauty school in Portland where she worked as a beautician for at time before moving to Hawaii. There she met Julian (Sandy) Shokey who was stationed in the Navy. They married September 30, 1961 in Gresham at St. Henry’s Catholic Church. They moved to New York where they started their family which consisted of two daughters. After ten years there, they moved to Boring where they have lived since.
Betty enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, volunteering at the church and senior center.
She was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church since 1971 when they moved here.
Survivors include her husband Julian (Sandy); daughters, Janna Kampen of Anchorage, Alaska, Denise Cummins of Lebanon, Oregon; sisters Mae McCormick and Carol Shokey both of Sandy, Oregon; brothers Robert Leber of Springfield, Oregon, John Leber of Milton Freewater, Oregon; grandchildren, Katie Kampen, Megan Cummins and Tonn Cummins.
