Betty (Nielsen) Hills was born to Morris and Viola (Christensen) Nielsen in 1935. She was born in Plentywood, Montana, and was the youngest of six siblings.
Betty started her life in a sod house on a family farm near Dagmar, Montana. At the age of eleven months old she and her family picked up stakes and moved to Sandy, Oregon. The family made the move by riding in a 1935 Chevy car, two boys riding in the front seat, and four girls and their mother riding in the back seat.
Six years later, the family moved to a farm in Unionvale (near Dayton). Betty went to grade school through high school in Dayton, graduating in 1954.
In 1955, Betty married Howard Hills and raised a family in southeast Portland.
Betty moved to Fairlawn Village, Gresham, in 2015. There she enjoyed her family time and retirement community friends.
Betty was one who couldn't be idle. If Betty wasn't working with her flowers and garden, she would find something that needed cleaning. She was fond of doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Later, when her lung cancer started to impact her ability to take care of herself, Betty moved in with her daughter in Sandy. Shortly after that move, Betty passed away peacefully, surrounded by her three children.
Betty was the last of her six siblings to go home to the Lord at age 87 and is survived by her three children -Rod Hills, Dave Hills, and Cheryl Pierce, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Betty was loved by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be so missed
