Sandy resident, Carol Powell died in Portland on April 19, 2016. She was 75. A funeral service will be held at Sandy Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m. Committal service is at Sandy Ridge Cemetery.
Carol Jean Rogers was born in Chicago, Illinois to Leighton and Charlotte Rogers on February 9, 1941. She grew up in Spencer, Iowa as a child before moving to Garden Grove, California when Carol was a young teenager. She graduated from Garden Grove High School class of 1958. She worked at Disneyland in the Tinkerbell shop before meeting John Powell in 1958. They married in Garden Grove on June 23, 1960.
After the wedding, Carol moved to Santa Clara while John was stationed at Moffet Field for the U.S. Navy. They moved back and forth from Santa Clara and Garden Grove depending on if John was shipped out until his discharge in 1963 where they bought a house in Garden Grove shortly after. Together they moved to Gresham, Oregon in 1967 before moving to Sandy permanently in 1971.
Carol worked as a cook in the Sandy School District until her retirement in 1999. She enjoyed quilting, tole painting, sewing and visiting with family.
Survivors include; husband of 57 years, John Powell; children Keith Powell of Washougal, WA, Scott Powell of Sandy, Julie Powell of Sandy; sister, Joanne Bryce of North Carolina; grandchildren, Tiffany, Kelley and Dean Powell, Amanda Williams and Cory Tebeck; great grandchildren, Lakai and Ephraim.
