Sandy resident, Carol Ming Hovet died on February 14, 2011 at Mt. Hood Medical Center in Gresham. She was 84.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, February 18, at Sandy Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cliffside Cemetery.
She was born Carol Ruth Paulson in Marshall, North Dakota on July 12, 1926 to Harold and Clara (Myran) Paulson. She grew up on the family farm near Marshall, N.D and graduated from high school in 1944, at Taylor, ND. After high school she attended Dickinson State College at Dickinson, ND, where she received her 2 year teaching degree.
In 1947, Carol married Ray Ming in rural New England, ND and raised 7 children together. While her 4 younger children were still at home, she returned to Dickenson State and received her bachelor’s degree in education. She was a traveling music teacher for many years in one room school houses in southwestern North Dakota. She received an award from the Governor William Guy for her dedication and commitment to the children in and around the Badlands of ND.
After her husband’s death in 1973, Carol moved to Antelope, Montana to take a teaching position. There she met and married Don Hovet. They lived in Antelope for 34 years. Don preceded her in death in 2008.
In 2010, she moved to Sandy to make her home, near family.
Survivors include her children, Earl Ming and wife Karen of Sandy, William Ming and wife, Maria of Tigard, Dennis Ming and wife, Maureen of Bismark, ND, Laurie Delfino and husband Sherman of Roy, WA, Darryl Ming and wife Tracy and Lynnette Powers of Sandy; 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Clara, her son, Harold and her brother Erland.
