Lifetime Sandy resident Chris Vaeretti, died peacefully in her home on March 7, 2012. She was 83.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 17, at Sandy Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cliffside Cemetery.
She was born Christina Ramona Rannow to William E. and Emma (Koch) Rannow on November 6, 1928 in Gresham. She was raised on the family farm near Dodge Park where she enjoyed hoeing berries with her father, as they discussed life philosophies, family and their future. Chris received her schooling at Sandy, graduating from Sandy High School in 1946. Continuing her education at the University of Oregon, she was a lifelong member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.
On June 26, 1948, Chris married former schoolmate, Howard J. Vaeretti, in Portland. They made their home in Sandy where they raised their six children. Besides devoting her time to her family, Chris worked as a bookkeeper and later as a school teacher. In 1985, they moved to Guam where Howard and Chris taught school for eight and a half years.
Chris was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed travelling throughout the world, gardening, golf, skiing, dancing, playing tennis, ping pong and volleyball, going to the beach and snorkeling. She was a member of several garden clubs throughout Oregon and California. Chris was also was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Gresham.
Surviving is her loving husband, Howard of Sandy; sons, William H. Vaeretti of Sandy, Mark J. Vaeretti of Venice, FL and Thomas B. Vaeretti of Birmingham, AL; daughters, Karyn C. Bertrand of Hermiston, OR, Teresa M. Vaeretti-Shultz of Vancouver, WA and and Gina M. Vaeretti of Portland; brother, William Rannow of Lincoln City; 1 grand-daughter and 2 great grandchildren.
