Dr. Daniel F. Haselnus passed away at the age of 90 on March 12, 2015 in Milwaukie, Oregon.
Memorial services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland at 11 a.m. on May 11, 2015 followed by a Celebration of Life reception at Persimmon Country Club SE Butler Rd, Gresham, OR 97080.
Dan was born in Albany, New York to Lewis and Dora (Kahn) Haselnus on May 11, 1924. He attended Nutley High School in New Jersey, then moved to Portland where he graduated from Jefferson High School. Dan joined the Marines during World War II at age 17, becoming a PBJ-1 bomber pilot (naval version of the Army’s B-25 Mitchell bomber). He was stationed on Kwajalein Island in the Central Pacific. After the war, Dan attended Upsala College in New Jersey, then transferred to the University of Oregon Dental School (now Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry) where he graduated in 1951. “Dr. Dan”, as he was always known, practiced in Northeast Portland for 43 years. He was honored by many dental organizations; the Royal Rosarians named a rose for him. Dan served as national President of the Academy of General Dentistry from 1969-1971, bringing a large convention to the City of Roses. His holistic approach toward health earned him the gratitude of many patients.
Dr. Dan enjoyed travel, reading and golf. After retirement, he divided his time between Cathedral City, California and Milwaukie, Oregon. Dan was preceded in death by his first wife, Gail Haselnus, who passed away in 1991. He is survived by his second wife, Adelle Cora Haselnus, four adult children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

His final thoughts encouraged love. In Dr. Dan’s words, “LOVE is always the answer.”
