Longtime Boring resident, Dave Schaffer died at Portland Adventist Medical Center on Saturday, February 25, 2012 after a battle with cancer. He was 60.
A viewing will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
David Henry Schaffer was born on September 22, 1951 to Otto and Norma Schaffer in Toledo, Oregon. As a young child, the family moved to Hood River where David began his elementary education. In 1963, they moved to Sandy and David attended Hood View Jr. Academy. In 1966, the family moved to Boring where Dave finished his schooling and graduated from Portland Adventist Academy in Portland. He then entered the U.S. Army in 1975 and was honorably discharged two years later in 1977.
Prior to getting married, Dave began working with his father as a contractor. On March 5, 1977, David was united in marriage to Patty Norris in Sandy. They made their home in Gresham and David continued his employment until 1978 when he furthered his education at Mt. Hood Community College. He received his drafting degree and was on the Dean’s List, seven out of nine terms. Shortly after graduating, he began his career and was employed at A to Z Steel. He later was employed at Steel Draft Systems for seventeen years and most recently, he worked at InstaFAB until his health forced him to retire on September 29, 2011.
Dave was an avid golfer and spent much time golfing with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing Texas Hold’em, darts and pool. Dave was a good cook, he took great pride in his “fix er upper” classic 1957 Chevy 2 door hard top Belaire and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and held dear as the most wonderful man in the world.
Surviving is his wife Patty of almost 35 years; his mother, Norma Schaffer of Boring; his sons, David Schaffer Jr. of Gresham and Dustin Schaffer of Boring; his sisters, Nancy Reed of McMinnville, Jean Chard also of McMinnville and Edie Unterseher of Gresham; his brothers, Don Schaffer of Gresham and Dan Schaffer of Sandy and 6 grandchildren. Dave is preceded in death by his father and his brother.
