In Loving Memory Of

Dawn Alison Taylor

February 17th, 1960 - February 11th, 2022

Obituary

Dawn Taylor, 61, passed away on February 11th after bravely fighting cancer and other illnesses for several years. Dawn spent her growing up years on Long Island, New York. She was born February 17, 1960 in Rockville Center and spent the first 10 years of her life in the town of Bellmore before eventually moving with her family to Wantagh. She attended Salk Junior High school and General Douglas MacArthur High School. Dawn went on to study nursing at Adelphia University and received her Registered Nursing (RN) degree in 1981.

Dawn was extremely proud to be a nurse. She started her nursing career at Nassau County Medical Center in the maternity ward before she caught the “travel bug” and became a traveling nurse. She traveled throughout the States on assignments, spending long stints in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas. Dawn traveled for fun as well spending time in Hawaii, Aruba, and England.

Dawn was a kind and generous person. She spent the last 10 years of her life in Los Angeles, California where she could not pass someone on the streets asking for money without giving them something. Dawn had a real and deep experience with God. She came to know Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior and relied on Him in her final days.

Dawn’s parents, Louis and Betty Jane Taylor preceded her in death. She is survived by her longtime partner Rodney Cobbs as well as her brothers, Lewis (Martha), Bruce (Ana), and Chris (Dawn). Dawn never married and had no children of her own but “Aunt Dawn” was loved by her seven nephews and nieces—Adrienne, Sarah, Jared, Amy, Carly, Travis, and Jesse. She never forgot a birthday or Christmas. She was generous with her giving and got great pleasure sending each of them little gifts just for fun. She loved each of her nephews and nieces. She will be missed.

Per Dawn’s final wishes, she was cremated and her ashes divide into thirds and will be scattered in the Pacific, the Rocky Mountains, and the Atlantic. There will be a Celebration of her life sometime this Spring/Summer of 2022 at Forest City Park, New York. The exact date and details are still being crafted. We will be contacting her New York area friends with the details as we get closer to the date.

I met Dawn when we were very young nurses working in the county hospital. We became fast friends and did tons of traveling together. Vermont, the hamptons, Aruba, Barbados, Shopping in St Thomas and on and on. She was a great friend and always told me I was the best friend she ever had. Dawn also lived with me for a while. What fun we had. I will miss her always and hope she is resting peacefully. I love you. Xoxo Nancy Katchmar

Dawn has been a dear friend since we were at orientation for our first nursing jobs back in the early 80’s. This tribute completely expresses the heart and life of our incredible: “Dawnie”!
