She was born, Dolores Meta Fabry on April 7, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to George and Ester (Buck) Fabry. Dee received her schooling in Milwaukee and graduated from Wisconsin High School. She then pursued her career as a secretary and was employed at Wisconsin Ice and Coal.
In 1949, Dee went on a blind date with Richard “Dick” Steffl who later became her husband on January 7, 1950. They were married in Wisconsin and shortly after that Dick was called to duty to serve in the U.S. Navy. Dee followed him throughout his service which included three wars except during the time which Dick served in the Pacific. After his discharge in 1952, they returned to Milwaukee for a short time prior to coming to Oregon. Dick and Dee made their home in Sandy and lived on Dick’s father’s farm. Two years later, they purchased a home of their own and made their permanent residence there. Dee was employed at PGE for over 30 years as a customer service representative until retiring.
Dee was an avid quilter and made hundreds of quilts for the Veteran’s Hospital. She was gifted with a “green thumb” and loved to garden, especially roses and lily’s and enjoyed canning various types of fruits and vegetables. She was a longtime member of the Sandy V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post #4273.
Dee is survived by her husband Dick and her god-son, Shawn Burns both of Sandy.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Sandy V.F. W. Ladies Auxiliary.
