Donald “Don” Wayne Jones died at Hopewell House in Portland Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at the age of 73.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Hillsview Community Church; 23225 SE Borges Rd., Gresham. Private burial will be at Damascus Pioneer Cemetery.
Donald was born August 26, 1936 in Harrison, Arkansas to Andrew B. and Florence E. (Peake) Jones. The family moved to Oregon when Don was 3 months old. He was raised in the Boring area, attending Boring Grade School and then graduating from Gresham High School in 1954. He joined the Oregon National Guard when he was 17. He worked in construction for several years as a young man and then met and married Beverley Stotts on March 11, 1961. They remained in the Gresham / Boring area and started their family. Don was able to change careers in 1968 when he got his real estate license. He stayed in Real Estate for the rest of his working days, retiring in 1996. Don and Beverley moved to Sandy in 1994.
Don was an avid golfer and was upset when his declining health limited his time on the golf course. He eventually had to give up the sport, but took to playing cribbage, reading and spending more time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife Beverley of Sandy; daughter, Ginger Snow of Seneca, MO; son Mark Jones of Portland; brothers, Robert Jones of Damascus and Lloyd Jones of Gresham; sisters Juanita Antonio of Gig Harbor WA., and Carol Whitney of Mexico; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his brother Larry Jones in 2003.
