Dora Wells died April 16, 2022 after a successful hip surgery but poor rehabilitation. She passed at Adventist Medical Center with her family by her side. She was 91.
Dora was born on the family farm in Blanca, Colorado to Harold and Katherine Kitchen. She was named after her Grandma Magee who delivered her when the doctor didn’t arrive in time. She started school in Blanca in 1936. The family moved in 1937 to a logging community near Lakeview, Oregon where they lived in a tent for the summer. They eventually moved to Gresham where she graduated from Gresham HS in 1948. She was offered a full scholarship to MSU, but decided to stay in Portland to work.
In 1948, Dora married her high school sweet heart, Glen Wells. They were married for 51 years. They settled in Boring and had 5 children: Gary, Shannon, Shelley, Greg and Shara.
While in HS Dora canned vegetables at the Poor Farm in Troutdale, and worked for Van Lyons Moving and Storage after graduation. She also worked at the Gresham Outlook and Boring Post Office. She carried mail for 20 years and loved it. After retiring, Dora and Glen took Horticulture classes at MHCC and started the Glendora Nursery. She loved gardening. She was a woman of faith and was especially devoted to her family. She played the organ for Pleasant Home Baptist Church.
Dora is predeceased by her parents, beloved husband, Daughter Shara, sister Lorraine Crane, brother Harold Kitchen and two grandchildren. She is survived by sister Ruth Baker Tarleton and brother Jim Kitchen, daughters Shannon and Shelley, sons Gary and Greg, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
