Sandy resident, Dorothy Hyde died peacefully in her sleep on October 16, 2016. She was 79. Services are being held privately.
Dorothy Ann Hyde was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on October 9, 1937 to Bernard and Dora (Croston) Hyde. She grew up in Idaho and Oregon, moving around a lot, due to her father’s construction jobs. She attended Pleasant Hill High School near Dexter, Oregon where, together, her family built the family homestead while her father worked on the local dam. Building the house is where Dorothy and her siblings mastered their carpentry skills. After school, she moved to The Dalles where she married Dale Dobson. In the late 1950s, she moved to Sandy, Oregon for a few years, and then moved to Portland to work as an accountant and later as a tax consultant.
In 1967, Dorothy married Bill Forster and in 1970, her family finished building, and moved into, their family home located in Boring. This is where she passed on her carpentry skills to her children and where she lived until 2015 when she moved into Cascadia Village Retirement Community. Dorothy had gone back to school, graduating from Mt. Hood Community College in 2003 with a degree in accounting.
Dorothy enjoyed horseback riding, painting, researching genealogy and studying the history of locations where she had lived, such as Deadwood, Idaho, and visiting with her family.
Survivors include; children Frank Dobson and Lynn Wunische of Sandy; siblings Betty Logan of Idaho, Elnora Soule of Tigard, Beverly Stone of Alaska, Charles Hyde of Portland, Lorna of Idaho and Barbara Kelly; grandchildren, Michael and Casey Dobson; great grandchild, Noah Evans.
