Dorothy Eileen Gray (Dort) was born in Slope County, North Dakota on December 17, 1927, to Jack and Ann (Hiller) Stockman. She was the oldest of 6 children and spent her early years with 3 of her siblings in North Dakota. Around 1935, her family packed their belongings in their car and headed to Oregon. She lived around the Sandy area for the rest of her life, attending Cottrell Grade School and graduating from Sandy High School in 1946. On Christmas Eve in 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Dean Gray, at his home in Sandy, where they lived until moving to Powell Valley and finally to Pleasant Home, east of Gresham. Out of high school, Dort worked at Meier and Frank in Portland, and eventually became the office manager at McRobert Ford in Gresham. On May 27, 2018, Dort lost her battle with Alzheimer's due to a fall that broke her hip and her arm.
Dort is survived by her husband of 69 years, Dean Gray, her 3 children, Judy Lofstedt of Sandy, Gary (Cherri) of Sandy, and Doug (Carolyn) of Boring. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Aaron Gray, Kacie (Abe) Bund, Richie (Amy) Gray, Andy(Amber) Gray, Laura (Charlie) Kent, and Kraig Lofstedt In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Lucetta Paluck, Myrt (Grant) Sturm, Betty (Junior) Gillham, and brothers, Vic(Margaret) and Gene (Georgia), and 7 great- grandchildren, Nadallie, Zoei, Colton, Josh, Luca, Axel and Grayson, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding her in death was her son-in-law, Greg Lofstedt, and her brothers-in-law, Vern Gillham and Frank Paluck.
She had just celebrated her 90th birthday and would have celebrated her 70th anniversary this December. She was loved and will be missed by many.
