Sandy resident, Dorothy Hoppell died at Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center on April 6, 2011. She was 82.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 9, at Sandy Baptist Church. Burial will be at 2:00 pm, on Tuesday, April 12, at Willamette National Cemetery.
She was born Dorothy Mae Koch in Chicago, Illinois on July 25, 1928 to Gerhard and Lillian (Muetze) Koch. She was raised in Chicago where she completed high school and earned her degree in teaching. Dorothy taught for a short time but dedicated her time as a homemaker and mother.
On August 4, 1955 she was married Vernon Eugene Hoppell in Chicago, Illinois. They lived and raised their family in various areas of the western United States due to her husband’s job with the railroad.
They retired in 1984 and made their permanent home in the house that they had built in the 1960’s. Her husband preceded her in death in 1995.
Dorothy attended Sandy Baptist Church. She enjoyed Bible studies, gardening, feeding and watching the birds and keeping in touch with friends and family.
Surviving is her son, David Hoppell of Gales Ferry, Connecticut; daughter, Barbara Keeney of Tempe, Arizona; sister, Laurel Sherer of Richmond, Indiana; brother, Ernest Koch of Evergreen Park, Illinois; and 1 grandchild, Theresa Keeney of Tucson, Arizona.
The family suggests that contributions be made to Sandy Baptist Church.
