Obituary

Longtime Sandy resident, Duane Franke went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 3, 2018.  He was 51.

Duane Campbell Franke was born on July 26, 1966 in Salem, Oregon to Donald and Nesta (Serjeant) Franke.  As an infant, the family moved to Dayville, Oregon where Duane began his elementary education. The family later moved to Bend where they lived for a time until moving to Sutherlin where Duane graduated from high school.  During his high school years, he played basketball, football and ran track.  During high school, he met his future wife Rhonda and they later married on June 27, 1987 in Sutherlin.

Duane and Rhonda made their home in Sutherlin where they began their family.  In 1990 they moved to Sandy and made their permanent home.  Duane was a building contractor and worked alongside his brother Donnie for many years up until his health did not allow him to any longer.

Duane’s faith was strong and no matter what came his way he would look to the Lord.  He and Rhonda were active members of Sandy Assembly of God.  They were actively involved with the youth for 12 years and were leaders for 7 of those years.

Duane loved spending time with his family and his granddaughter Peyton who brought him so much joy.  He was an avid sports fan and loved the Oregon Ducks. Duane loved hunting with his family,  “the crew,” year after year. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Duane is survived by wife Rhonda of 30 years, his daughters Rachelle Christiansen and her husband Sean and granddaughter Peyton and Cortney Franke all of Sandy; his parents, Don and Nesta Franke of Sandy; his siblings, Donnie Franke and wife Becky of Oregon City, Debbie Keimig and husband Mike of Hamilton Montana, and Dustin Franke of Huntington Beach, California.

May peace be with you and the power of your faith and good memories bring you lasting comfort. Nancy Hoffman
03/16/2018
I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to all of Duane’s family. For right now, there’s no detour around grief, no shortcut through mourning. However, 2 Cor.4:7 says that God can give us, “... power beyond what is normal “, to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry, or that we forget. It means we recover. We recover because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28 which says, “... all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out “. Jesus was referring to the resurrection. That is our amazing hope! The Bible likens our hope to an anchor. Just like an anchor stabilizes a ship, our hope stabilizes us and keeps us from drowning in overwhelming sadness. 2 Cor.1:3 describes our Creator as, “... the God of all comfort “. One way that God comforts us is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear. May the God of comfort be your comfort now, during this time of sorrow.
