Edna S. Cooke passed away June 7th 2017 at her home in Hillsboro Oregon. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Roger Cooke. She is survived by her three sisters, two brothers, four children, and nine grandchildren.
Edna was born in Lancaster County, PA to John and Anna Stoltzfus on April 19th 1949. Edna moved from her Amish home in Pennsylvania with her family at the age of five. John and Anna Stolzfus and family restarted in the Portland area where they became good friends with Roger Cooke’s family through the church they attended. On September 20th, 1969, Roger and Edna were married. After a year in Indiana and Lance being born, they soon after found a home on the Sandy River west of Mount Hood. Here they raised their four kids, Lance, Stephanie, Brady and Kenny.
Edna had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and loved serving and helping others. Her first and primary occupation was homemaker. She was active in her church, local bible studies, women’s ministries, crisis pregnancy centers, and any place she saw a need she could help with. She also worked as a professional organizer. In her later years, she focused as much attention as possible on being a grandmother to her nine grandchildren.
Edna and Roger lived in the same home for 40 years until Roger passed away in 2012. In 1992 Edna was diagnosed with Scleroderma, an autoimmune disease. Edna attributed her positive outlook on life to her unwavering faith in God even as her health declined. “I’m doing pretty good for the shape I’m in!” was often her reply when asked how she was doing.
