Sandy resident Elaine “Rory” Steigleder died at home on March 19, 2010 at the age of 49.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Grace Community Church in Gresham on March 25, 2010 at 12 noon.
She was born Elaine Margaret Steigleder to Paul Jude and Darlene Marilyn (Hauge) Steigleder on February 28, 1961 in Portland, Oregon. Elaine was raised in Portland, attending St. Therese grade school and then Rex Putnam High School. After graduating in 1979, Elaine continued her education attending Warner Pacific University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.
Elaine used her degree working as a drug and alcohol counselor for Sun Village in Welches. She also took in, and cared for several foster children over the years, many of whom were children with disabilities that were rejected by other foster families.
Elaine was a creative person who loved singing and playing her flute and piano, arts and crafts, and tending children and animals. She had a heart of compassion for people as well as animals.
She is survived by her daughter Jenna Rider of Welches; parents, Paul and Darlene Steigleder of Welches; her sister Nadine Dody of Gresham; brother, Paul Steigleder II of Happy Valley, several nieces and nephews and her foster kids who were her family by choice.
