Former Sandy resident, Eleanor Schuff died at Park Forest Care Center on Monday, April 6, 2009. She was 82.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at City Bible Church, located at 9200 NE Fremont, Portland, Oregon 97220. A committal service will follow at Blooming Cemetery in Cornelius at 3:30.
Eleanor Schuff was the second of five children born in Cornelius Ore. to John and Martha Koehnke. There she became a member of the Blooming church where she later attended primary school.
Her high school years (during WW II) where divided between school in Hillsboro Ore., and Long Beach CA. While in Long Beach she was a member of the Girls Reserve, a YMCA program to promote patriotic war work. She enrolled in home nursing classes and received training at a local hospital where she assisted nurses.
After graduating from high school, she studied art at Ottis Art Institute in Los Angeles, California and continued her studies at the Museum Art School after moving back to Portland. It was in Portland that she met and married Bill Schuff. Together they moved to California where they lived for 8 years with their three children.
Eleanor and her children moved back to Portland where she attended City Bible Church; became a member and a student, attending classes at City Bible College. Later she enrolled at Mt. Hood Community College and became certified as a CNA. She worked in Sandy, Oregon as a care giver until her illness, which precluded her death.
She loved art, Jesus, and her family, who will miss her sweet, gentle spirit immeasurably.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters Lorene Whitman of Portland, and Kathy Barnett of Camas, WA; her son, John Schuff of Sacramento, CA; brother John Koehnke of Cornelius and sister, Marge Anderson of Hillsboro; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
