A Funeral Service for longtime Sandy resident, Ellen Stewart will be held in the chapel of Sandy Funeral Home on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. A private family burial will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
She was born, Ellen L. Fagan on July 8, 1924 in Harrison, Arkansas to James M. and Sarah E. (Kent) Fagan. As a young child, the family moved to Kansas where she was raised and received her schooling. As a teenager, she worked for Wilson Packing House.
In 1946, Ellen moved to Oregon and made her home in Gresham. Besides fulfilling her duties as a mother, she worked at Zim’s Twelve Mile Corner as a clerk. In 1962, Ellen and her family moved to Sandy where she began working at Sandy High School as the head cook. In 1969, Ellen was married to James D. Stewart. They made their home in Sandy where Ellen continued her employment at the High School until retiring in 1979.
Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family and always looked forward to all of the “get together’s”. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, fishing and gardening. She was a life member of the Sandy V.F. W. Ladies Auxiliary Post #4273. She volunteered both at the Sandy Senior Center and the V.F. W. Auxiliary. She had a great love for both people and pets.
She is survived by her sons, Dan Gannon of Milwaukie and Owen Gannon of Gresham ; her daughters, Janet Morrow of Portland and Shirley Moffet of Gresham; 2 sisters and 1 brother; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband James Stewart on August 25, 1974; her daughter, Judy Walker and her great granddaughter, Kaelyn Coday.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Sandy Senior Center or the Sandy V.FW. Ladies Auxiliary.
