Obituary

Former Boring resident, Emmy Lehman died at her home on Sunday, July 18, 2009. She was 80.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Willamette National Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sandy on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at Cascadia Village Retirement ~ 39495 Cascadia Village Drive.

She was born, Emma Louise Kelly on July 24, 1928 to Lewis R. and Helen J. (Falconer) “Nellie” Kelly in Bismarck, North Dakota. She was raised in Carson, North Dakota and began her schooling there. As she neared her senior year of high school, the family moved to Fargo, North Dakota where she graduated from Fargo High School. Shortly after graduating, she furthered her education at Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Fargo and received her Nursing Certificate. Emmy then moved to Circle, Montana where she became licensed as a Registered Nurse and began her career in nearby Miles City, Montana. While working at the hospital there, she met and later married, Eugene R. Lehman. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1954 in Circle, Montana. They lived in various areas of Montana including Rudyard, Missoula, Libby and Deer Lodge, began their family and Emmy pursued her career as a nurse.

In 1966, the family moved to Oregon and made their home in Cascade Locks and Emmy was employed at the Gresham Community Hospital. Two years later, they moved to Gresham prior to making their permanent home in Boring where they enjoyed retirement.

In early 2000, Emmy and Eugene moved to Sandy, making their home at Cascadia Village Retirement Community.

Mrs. Lehman enjoyed gardening, ceramic painting, needlepoint, crocheting, knitting, sewing, playing bingo, collecting dolls, thimbles and spoons.

Emmy was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and a past member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Gresham. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She volunteered her time at Mt. Hood Medical Center as a Hospital Aid after retirement and was a Democratic Vote Organizer for Cascadia Village Retirement Community.

Surviving are her daughters, Jane Lehman of Silver Spring, Maryland and Cathy Niliaram of Rockton, Illinois; her son, Bob Lehman of Gresham; 8 grandchildren and her niece, Betty Huss of Miles City, Montana. She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene in 2006, her half sister, Fern Stanley and half brothers, Lawrence and Vincent Kelly and her parents.
