Longtime Sandy resident, Enola Roper age 85, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Avamere at Sandy where she had spent the past 11 months in the Arbor Unit under Hospice Care.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 in the chapel of Sandy Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. A private burial will follow at Firhill Memorial Cemetery.
Born, Enola Elizabeth Proctor on April 12, 1924, in Cold Springs, Missouri she was raised by her parents James and Lola Proctor along with 11 siblings, 4 brothers and 7 sisters.
Enola moved to Oregon in 1943. On May 4, 1946, she was united in marriage to James. H. Roper. They made their home in Sandy where they raised their 3 daughters. Besides fulfilling her responsibilities as a devoted wife and mother, she worked at Mt. Hood Cleaners and Laundry for 38 years, retiring in 1984.
Enola was a member of the Sandy Lions Club and a Charter Member of the Sandy V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary where she enjoyed many events and friendships. She enjoyed working in the yard, sewing, crocheting and quilting, but most of all she loved attending family functions. She was a regular at the sporting events of not only her grandchildren, but her great grandchildren until she was no longer able to attend.
Enola is survived by her children, Carol Hesse and her husband Delton of Sandy, Kathy Pinkerton of Sandy and Janet Sasser and her husband David of Damascus; her sisters, Geneva Heinemann and Nadine Page both of Wasco, Oregon, Virginia Jacobs of Springfield, Missouri and Alice McClure of Cincinnati, Iowa; grandchildren, Randy and Carrie Wheeler of Estacada, Rick and Kelly Wheeler of HoCiMinh City, Vietnam, Nikole Tubbin of Sandy, Karey and Steve Milne of Sandy, Tyler Sasser of Newberg and Gavin and Emily Sasser of Gresham; great grandchildren, Jimmy and Jessica Wheeler of Estacada, Mackenzie, Kennedy and Cooper Wheeler of HoCiMinh City, Vietnam, Broady and Madalin Tubbin of Sandy and Ariana Milne of Sandy. She is preceded in death by her husband James in 1982, her mother in 1977, her father in 1960, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
