In Loving Memory Of

Eugene "Gene" Hessler

November 10th, 1934 - December 2nd, 2017

Obituary

Eugene “Gene” Junior Hessler, 83, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Sunnyside Kaiser Medical Center in Clackamas, OR.

Gene was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on November 10, 1934 to Conrad and Eva Hessler. He attended school in Scottsbluff and later became a long haul truck driver. He enjoyed his travels criss-crossing the United States and often told his “stories of the road” to friends and family. He enjoyed camping, fishing, wood crafting projects and especially working on trucks with his son and grandson. He loved his time living on the mountain in Welches, OR, often feeding by hand the local deer that frequented their neighborhood.

Survivors include his wife Shila, with whom he shared 20 years of marriage; son Rick Hessler; grandson Mike Hessler; granddaughter Lisa Hessler; great-grandchildren Garrett and Madisyn; former wife, Frieda Tuttle.

Interment will be held at a later date at Cliffside Cemetery in Sandy, OR.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hoodland Fire District who provided assistance to Shila and Gene as needed while they lived on the mountain in the tight knit community of Welches. They are forever grateful for their service.

My sincere belated condolences to Gene's family.
As a Banknote picture engraver I have fond memories of Gene as a gentleman with an outstanding talent, especially for his gift of following the history of engraving.
Gene had asked me to provide a portrait engraving of McDonald for a Canadian bank note I had done.
At that time I was remiss in not able to for which I apologize.
Fond memories of a very kind man.

We all send our heartfelt sympathy to Shila and Rick and family members for their recent loss. As relatives of the deceased through the Hessler side of the family, we hold memories of fun times in years gone by. Genie (as we called him) and my Mother (Dorothy) were cousins. May God Bless all of you. Bonnie (Kauffman) Williamson and family
