Boring resident, Evelyn Painter, died at her home on February 17, 2011. She was 80.
A memorial service was held at Sandy Funeral Home on Monday, February 21, 2011.
She was born Evelyn Irene Bernhardt on August 5, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas to William and Esther (Lewis) Bernhardt. The family moved to Gresham, Oregon in 1939 where she and her older brother Edward attended local area schools and participated in many after-school activities.
“Evie”, as she was known to her friends, graduated from Gresham High School in 1948. She married Robert Painter that same year and they started their family. Evelyn was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, but always managed to find time for her two passions, gardening and golf. She served as President, Treasurer, Secretary and several other positions in the Mt. View G.C. Women’s Club over the years. She was club champion multiple times and had 3 Holes-in-One during her golfing career. Her beautiful backyard flower gardens that bordered the golf course were the envy of neighbors and passing golfers alike over the years.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert; 3 sons, Michael of Vancouver, Garry of Sandy, and Rodney of Milwaukie; brother, Edward Bernhardt of Sandy; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She will be remembered by all who knew her as the loving, caring, compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and extraordinary friend that she was.
The family would like to thank Providence Hospice for their loving care and request donations be made to them in lieu of flowers.
