Everett Nordin died at Portland Adventist Medical Center with his family by his side on Monday, January 5, 2009 at the age of 82.
A funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Cliffside Cemetery.
Everett Buckley Nordin was born on February 18, 1926 in Gresham to Axel T. and Ruth M. (Davis) Nordin. He was raised and received his schooling in Corbett. The family later moved to Hillsboro and shortly after, entered the U.S. Army on March 27, 1944 and served with the Corp of Engineers in Burma.
After his honorable discharge, he returned to Hillsboro and worked various jobs. Along with his full time job, he taught guitar lessons played in a band where he met his future wife. Everett was united in marriage on August 15, 1954 do Dorothy Mae Daffern in her mother’s front yard in Portland. They made their home in Corbett where they raised their family and Everett pursued his career as a machinist until retiring in 1989. On April 1, 2006 Dorothy preceded him in death. For the last 3 years, Everett has resided in Portland.
Surviving are his 3 daughters, Laurie Abbott of Troutdale, Mona Graven of Nampa, Idaho and Judith Todd of Vancouver, Washington; his brothers, Gary Nordin of Gladstone and Darryl Nordin of Seattle, Washington; his sister, Sandra McCuen; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one great granddaughter expected in February.
Mr. Nordin was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had a passion for music and playing his guitar. He played the guitar in a family band for over 40 years. Everett was proud to have served in the U.S. Army and had fond memories of Burma.
