Sandy resident Bennie Bohannan died at her home with her family by her side on Saturday, October 1, 2011. She was 83.
A private family Celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
She was born, Florence Bernice Bohannan, on September 15, 1928 to James E. and Momoria (Brown) Hitt in Riverside, California. She was the ninth child born out of a large family of twelve. Bennie was raised and received her schooling in Riverside.
In December of 1946, Bennie was united in marriage to Dean Wiliam Hicks. They made their home in Downey, California near her family. In 1965, they were divorced. Bennie remained in Downey where she finished raising her daughters and went to work at Weiser Lock.
On June 7, 1969 Bennie married William Gordon Bohannan in Mexico. They returned to Downey and she pursued her career at Weiser Lock. In January of 1983, William preceded her in death. Bennie then took early retirement. In 2006, she moved to Oregon to be near her family.
Bennie loved playing slot machines especially with her sister Bobbie. They spent time at local casinos and also in Las Vegas and Reno. She also enjoyed traveling, doing word find and fill inn puzzles and reading. She loved her family and spending time with them. Bennie will be greatly missed and remembered for her “quick witted” personality and her love for others.
Bennie is survived by her twin daughters, Dorothy Troutman and Donna DeBoor both of Sandy; her twin brothers, Wayne and Wilbur Hitt both of Downey, California; her sisters, Millie Liddiard and Jeannie Duncan of Huntington Beach, California; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Durene.
