Former Sandy resident, Reverend Buford Woodard went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 25, 2009 in Sacramento, California. He was 91.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Sandy Ridge Cemetery.
Forrest Buford Woodard was born in Bryson City, North Carolina on March 22, 1918 to William and Miley (Sutton) Woodard.
Buford moved to the West Coast as a young man where he was involved in the logging industry and trucking business before becoming a Southern Baptist Minister. Buford served in California, North Carolina and Washington. He Pastored for over 50 years and retired in the early 1990’s.
Buford was united in marriage to Clarinda Howard on April 9, 1938 in North Carolina. They made their home in North Carolina where they began their family and he served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his daughters, Betty Jo Smith and Wanda Dallas both of Sacramento, California; his sisters, Delia Watkins of North Carolina, Irene Mansur and Inez Bryant both of Ocean Park, Washington; 6 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife in 2007, after over 69 years of marriage, his son Archie in 1983 and his granddaughter, Tretha in 2007.
