Frank Ian Happold was born in Blackpool, England, October 12, 1936, to Florence Nuttall. He crossed the pond to the United States on the Queen Mary in 1946.
He grew up in Boring, Oregon with his parents Ed and Florence Happold and his three sisters Peggy, Diona and Marilyn. He grew restless and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954. He did two tours in Vietnam, traveled around the globe and received many awards. During his time in the Navy, he was most proud of wearing the anchors of the Chief Petty Officer and serving with the USN Construction Battalions better known as Seabees.
In October of 1956, while stationed in Hawaii, he met Ann Oya on a blind date and later they married on February 16, 1957. They were married for 64 years. Together they lived in many different places such as Hawaii, France, Pennsylvania, and California. Frank retired from the Navy in 1974 and the family moved to Oregon. They found their home in Sandy where they raised their family. Frank worked at Clackamas County Bank for a few years before eventually working for Allied Recovery and retired at the age of 83. Frank admired cars of various kinds and owned quite a few over the years. He never met a car show/museum he didn’t like! He had quite the collection of toy cars and they ringed the walls of his shop as well as filling a few trophy cases. He might not of enjoyed the maintenance of Ann’s blueberry trees, but he did enjoy the harvest and the smile it put on her face!
He was active in the community serving on the Board of Directors for the Sandy Fire Department. He contributed a large amount of time to his church community at St. John Catholic Church. He was also active in the Kiwanis Club on the Board of Governors and served in multiple capacities, once serving as the President of the Key club for multiple states. He enjoyed doing things with family, it didn’t matter if it was attending a function, picking blueberries, or eating out, time with family was important. He was easy going and made friends quickly. He loved talking, visiting and keeping contact with friends.
Frank is survived by his children Duane Happold (wife Liz), Lisa Trimble (husband Craig) and Ryan (wife Amy) Happold. 10 grandchildren: Andrew, Daniel, Christopher (wife Savannah), Reed, Austin (wife Samantha), Lily, Ian, Rylynn, McKenzie, and RJ and 3 great grandchildren: Mikah, Sofia, and Alexander.
