Frank Dunlap, age 88, a resident of Corbett, Oregon for 68 years, died in his home surrounded by family on January 24, 2015. His heart, after many years of trauma, finally stopped.
Born in Struthers, Ohio to Thomas and Beulah Dunlap, Frank was the 5th of 6 children, all deceased. He was raised in Lowellville, Ohio and received his high school diploma after joining the Navy at age 17 in 1944. He fought in the battle of Okinawa in 1945.
Upon his Naval discharge in 1946 in Astoria Oregon, Frank visited his shipmate Jim Baker in Corbett, and met Jim’s sister Catherine. That was the beginning of a 68 year marriage.
In 1947 Frank joined his two brothers-in-law, Allan and Jim Baker, to form Baker Brothers Logging. They spent the next 50+ years working together in the woods and on the family farm. Frank was the timber-faller. It beat him up quite a bit, but didn’t kill him.
On Easter Sunday, 1951 at Aims Community Church, Frank asked Jesus to become the guiding force in his life. Jesus did what he said he would, and Frank’s life became the result. He loved people deeply, widely and without reservation. His life was a testimony of the love of God.
He leaves his wife Catherine Dunlap, his nine children and their spouses, Christine (Marvin), Sarah (John), Desiree (Brad), Lori (Glen), Sandra, Marc, Eddie, Ben (Lorraine), Tami (Christopher), 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 sister-in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and friends everywhere.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 8th at Trout Creek Bible Camp, Corbett Oregon. If desired, donations in his memory may be made to Aims Community Church, Mt. Hood Hospice or a charity of your choice.
