Gary Dale Roberts

Longtime Boring and former Sandy resident, Gary Roberts died peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2019 in Gresham. He was 82.

A funeral service will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. A private burial will be at Cliffside Cemetery.

Gary Dale Roberts was born on March 13, 1937 at Multnomah Co. Hospital in Portland to Howard W. and Grace M. (Sperry - Walck) Roberts. The family lived in California from 1953 - 1956, the majority of Gary’s life was spent in Sandy where he also received his education. After high school, Gary began working at a car dealership in Gresham undercoating cars. He also worked at Fancher’s Auto Parts in Gresham and then in Sandy.

In 1957 Gary married Anita Louise Wegener. They lived in Gresham where they began their family. They enjoyed going to the beach and clamming. They were involved with the Jaycee’s (Chamber of Commerce) for a few years. They had 2 children, Cindy born in October 1959 and Craig born in November 1962. They were divorced in 1969.

Gary had a longtime career with PGE as a Hydroplant Operator at the Bull Run Power House. On August 26, 1975 Gary was married to Phyllis Howland. They made their home in the Sandy area where they finished raising their family.

Gary enjoyed restoring cars, loved the outdoors, especially spending time mowing and doing tractor work. He was a member of Route 26 Cruisers and he always looked forward to the Cruise Oregon event. He was a Sandy Police Reserve for 25 years and retired as a Sergeant and was a member of the Sandy Volunteer Firefighter’s Association for 30 years and retired as a Captain.

Surviving are his wife Phyllis; his children, Cindy and husband Jim Perdew; Craig and wife Heather Roberts; step son, Scott and wife Nannette Howland; grandchildren, Annika Howland, Mathew and his wife Stacey Stubbs, and David “Ethan” Stubbs; great grandchildren, Seth and Emmet Stubbs.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Hood Hospice.
