Gary Dwight Schott, known to many as “Doc,” passed away on November 1, 2025, at age 69.
Gary was raised in Scappoose, Oregon. He lived life on his own terms and could call anywhere home. He spent many years on the road as a long-haul truck driver, seeing much of the country throughout his travels. He also enjoyed working as a cattle ranch hand.
Gary loved Westerns and was a cowboy at heart, rarely seen without his hat. He found joy on a motorcycle, a pastime that suited his independent spirit. Drawn to the outdoors, he often spent his nights under the stars. He was known as a talker, never short on tales.
He is survived by his son, his mother, one brother, three sisters, and five grandsons. He will be remembered for the unique way he lived and for the stories he carried from a lifetime of adventure.
The family hopes to encourage compassion and understanding for those touched by addiction and to remind others that support is available through the 988 Crisis & Support Line, including specialized assistance for veterans.
A private service to honor Gary’s life will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Fort Kennedy or The Father’s Heart in his memory.
