After an 18 year long battle with brain cancer, Genalee was reunited with her husband, Richard, as she entered heaven’s gates on the morning of October 23rd, 2013. Her family was at her bedside.
Genalee was born on October 6, 1945, in Topeka Kansas, to Martin and Vera Nystrom. She was the middle of 3 children. She graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Kansas University on an academic scholarship.
On August 30, 1973, in a small service in Topeka, she married her one true love, Richard Stanley Brock. She and Rick moved around the country over the next few years, finally starting the family she had always dreamed about in 1974.
She made her home in Sandy, Oregon and spent 28 years there with Rick and their four children, Shalaina, Steven, Timothy, and Matthew.
Genalee was a passionate and caring daughter, wife, and mother. She cared for her ailing parents at home, homeschooled all of her children, and was very active in her church. She spent more then 35 years serving alongside her husband in several children’s ministries, including the AWANA program at Sandy Baptist Church in Sandy, Oregon; and more recently the children’s church service at East Hill Church in Gresham, Oregon.
Genalee will be especially remembered for her passion for children. She always had a warm smile, filled with love and hope and was always reaching out and giving herself to those in need. She also loved to give bibles to everyone she knew. Besides homeschooling her own children, she tutored many others, and loved and treated them as her own.
Genalee will be loved and missed by many, including her children: Shalaina Peil, Stephen Brock, Timothy Brock, Matthew Brock, her grandchildren, Riley, Hayden, Josephine, Richard and Abraham, and her brother David Nystrom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, a grandchild, and her husband Rick.
A Service will be held at East Hill Church, 701 N Main Ave, Gresham, Oregon 97030, at 2pm on November 21st 2013. She will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery with her husband.
