Sandy resident George Raymond Hassett passed to his rest in Jesus Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Gentle Home in Sandy, Oregon. He was 96.
A memorial service will be held at Dover Community Church, 42180 Kitzmiller Rd, Eagle Creek, Oregon, on Tuesday, June 27th at 6 pm.
George was born July 24, 1920, in Waterloo, Oregon, to Frank and Manila (McTimmonds) Hassett, the second of eight children. He moved to Brookings, Oregon with his family in 1923 and spent much of his life there.
On May 20, 1945, George married Adelia Mae Ellis at the First Baptist Church in Brookings after a five-month courtship. They made their home in Brookings and raised their children.
George and Adelia became Christians on Jan. 1, 1957. George worked for many years in the retail grocery business, including running his own store in Bridge, Oregon, for several years. In 1996, George and Adelia moved to Sandy to be near their family.
George was a member of Dover Community Church. He enjoyed photography for many years and was an avid hiker. He and Adelia loved to travel, living “on the road” for seven years after his retirement.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Adelia; brothers, Virgil and Charlie; sisters, Martha Olson, Marie Nye, and Ruth Murphy; and one great-grandchild.
George is survived by his daughter, Nancy Thiessen of Sandy; sons, Ronald of Waterford, Ireland, Dan of Crocker, Missouri, Glenn of Tillamook, and Wayne of Columbia Falls, Montana; sisters, Leta Jackson of Susanville, California, and June Juelson of Anchorage, Alaska; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
