Georgina Gay Griffin (Gina for short) was born June 20, 1936, to Virginia and Hamilton Griffin in Eugene OR. She was named after her uncle George who died at an early age. Gina graduated from Oregon State University. She joined the “Alpha Kappa Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority.”
She married her husband David Currin (Dave) Duby in the winter of 1956. Together they had four children Serena Greager (Richland, WA), Mark Duby (Sandy, OR), Virginia Blade (Hermiston, OR), and Dianne Nunamaker (Pasco, WA).
Gina taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade at several schools in Washington. When she was no longer able to teach, she became the Librarian at St. Patrick’s Catholic school.
In retirement Gina and Dave moved to Sandy, OR. Their favorite pass time was picking blue berries for pies, taking long walks and hosting their grandchildren for summer vacation.
Dave passed away in 1994 and was buried on the Duby ranch outside of Baker City, OR.
Gina was very active in her parish of St Michaels here in Sandy. She volunteered at the Sandy Senior Center and assisted in Meals on Wheels. It was at the Sandy Senior center where she met the man who become her 2nd husband Robert Sutherland. When they were not traveling, they resided in Sandy. She laid Robert to rest in January of 2012.
Gina was a strong independent woman with a love for hummingbirds, she had several that visited her feeders all year long. Gina was very giving of her time, when she saw a need she filled the need. She continued to take the long walks and played cards with her friends. She accompanied Serena frequently to Sisters, OR where she loved to spend time. The Lord called her home on October 16, 2024, surrounded by family. She is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
The service will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church (18090 SE Langensand Rd, Sandy OR, 97055) at 11am, Saturday, November 9th, 2024. She will be buried alongside her husband Dave on the Duby Ranch.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to Parkinson Research.
A funeral reception will be held at church hall (lower level of church) immediately following the service.
