Gerald Dean Yungeberg passed away of natural causes on March 6, 2022, at the age of 78.
Gerald Dean Yungeberg was born on May 31, 1943, in Alhambra, California to Carl and Betty (Sturgeon) Yungeberg.
Gerald worked on many dredges, retiring as a Captain from the Port of Portland. During his dredging career, he worked from the Southern California Coast to as far North as Nome, Alaska and as far East as Townsend, Montana. After the eruption of Mount St. Helens, he was Captain of the Dredge Oregon, one of the first rigs to start to open up the shipping channel.
In retirement, he dove deep into his true passion, restoring, buying, and selling 1958 through early 60’s Chevrolet cars. He loved going to the Portland swap meet to buy sell and dicker on everything. He instilled a good work ethic to all his children and grandchildren. Everyone knew him as a tough and rough man, but fair to all. He was sometimes referred to as a twelve-pound hammer kind of guy.
Gerald is survived by his sons, Christopher Dean and Justin Ray Yungeberg, grandchildren Christopher S., Mason R., Addison, Bethanie L, Alex and Nicholas Yungeberg, Abigail, and Lance Ballantine, Daniel Yungeberg, Millie Maxine McKinney and Nora Jane McKinney He is also survived by his brother Robert Yungeberg, sister Jeanie Yungeberg Black, and many great-grandchildren. Gerald had a special friend and companion, Viki Willroy who will never be forgotten. He was preceded in death by his wife Georgia Maxine Yungeberg, as well as his daughter Lydia Lorraine Yungeberg.
