Glen Grubbs died at his home in Gladstone on Friday, January 16, 2010. He was 78.
A Funeral Service will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Douglas Pioneer Cemetery in Troutdale.
Glen Edwin Grubbs was born on August 20, 1931 in Kingston, Ohio to Menard and Mary (Thornton) Grubbs. He was raised by his foster parents, Charles and Evelyne Seeling in Chillicothe, Ohio where he received his schooling. Shortly after graduating from Huntington High School, he entered the U.S. Air Force on December 28, 1950, serving in Korea. Prior to his discharge, he was married to Edna Clark. After his honorable discharge on December 7, 1954 he made his home in Portland and began his family. He was later divorced.
In 1962 he married Phyllis Foster in Portland. They lived in the Gresham and Portland areas where Glen worked as a window covering installer as well as owning and operating Grubbs Janitorial Service. In 1999, Phyllis preceded him in death. He remained in the area until moving to Arizona in 2004. In 2009, he moved to Gladstone to be near his family as his health was starting to decline.
Glen is survived by his sons, Stanley Grubbs and wife Mary of Sandy and Ron Grubbs and his wife Jannice of Gladstone; his daughter Glenda Grubbs-Manson and husband Tim of Troutdale; his step children, Daniel Combs of Gresham and David Kerr of Oak Harbor, Washington; his foster siblings, Connie, Richard and Dick; his brothers, Millard and Bill; his sisters, Jane and Margie; 19 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Glen enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and eating donuts with them. He enjoyed the outdoor activities of fishing, hunting and camping.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Willamette Falls Hospice.
