Long-time Boring and Sandy resident Glenda Ann (Lockling) Boring passed away November 25, 2024 of complications from a stroke. She was 82.
Glenda was born December 3, 1941 in Longmont, CO to Glen and Dorothy Lockling. During the early years of her childhood, Glenda’s family lived in Colorado and Campbell, CA before settling in the Boring and Sandy area. She attended Sandy Grade School and graduated from Sandy High School in 1959. Glenda married her high school sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Boring on August 21, 1959. They welcomed their first son, Darrell, in 1961 and second son, Michael, in 1964. Bob and Glenda were married for 58 years before Bob’s passing in 2018.
Shortly after their marriage, Glenda helped make ends meet by starting a small cake decorating business, making specialty cakes for many birthdays and weddings. In the early 1970s, she volunteered as a Library Assistant at East Gresham Grade School. After a few years, she was promoted to a paid position as East Gresham’s Attendance Secretary – a position she held for over 20 years. During that time, Glenda had a huge impact on kids and families, had acting roles in the school’s holiday plays, and personally paid for school supplies and Christmas gifts for families in need. Glenda’s sons still have people come up to them and say “Mrs. Boring was a legend at East Gresham Grade School!” After retiring from the school, Glenda was a volunteer at Mt. Hood Medical Center for many years, and earned their Volunteer of the Year Award.
Glenda could light up a room and was the life of the party. She had a great sense of humor and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She certainly didn’t have a “filter” and loved to push people’s buttons. Glenda lived at Avamere Assisted Living in Sandy for the last six years of her life. She served on the Welcoming Committee, served as President of the Resident Council, and certainly made her presence known to other residents, visitors, and caregivers. She always had a large bowl of candy outside of her room for residents to share and purchased many children’s Christmas gifts from Avamere’s Giving Tree.
Most of all, Glenda was a fabulous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and loyal friend. She and Bob loved their family, cherished the holidays (including a huge Christmas celebration with many inflatable figures on the front lawn) and were very giving and loving to all.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, and her sisters Darlene Comstock and Charylsie Brown. She is survived by her sons Darrell Boring (Teresa), and Mike Boring; grandchildren Emily Boring, Nick Boring (Michelle), and Natalie Ryman (Matt); great-grandchildren Gage Boring and Raleigh Ryman; sister-in-law Shirley Crow; brother-in-law Jim Boring (Janet); and many cherished nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Glenda Boring’s life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Sandy Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the Sandy Historical Society Museum. Glenda’s family wishes to thank the incredible caregivers at Avamere for their tremendous care and love of Glenda. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the great people at Mt. Hood Hospice, PO Box 1269, Sandy OR 97055.
