Longtime Sandy resident, Harold Benton “Ben” Salisbury died Sunday July 4, 2010. He was 79.
A Celebration of Ben’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday July 18, 2010 at Sandy Funeral Home.
Ben was born in Colorado Springs on April 26, 1931 to Ella Mae (Pilkington) Salisbury. He attended Baker High School and graduated in 1949.
On May 12, 1951 he married Clara Ruth Leum and soon thereafter joined the U.S. Air Force. He and Clara were stationed in Amarillo, Texas where they started their family.
In 1955, Ben and Clara returned to Oregon where Ben worked for Reynolds Aluminum in Troutdale. After a few years there Ben partnered with his step-father, Victor Baert, in Baert’s Metal Products, a steel fabrication business in Gresham. The business moved to Sandy in 1970. Ben retired in 1987. Clara passed away in 2006. His son Steven Michael died in 1999.
Ben loved hunting and fishing, traveling in his motor home and barbeques with his family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Mark Salisbury of Gresham; daughter Debbie Halvorsen of Sandy; and step-sister Shirley Taylor of Cove, Oregon.
