Harvey Keith Schneider, 89, of Sandy Oregon died Monday February 24th. Services were held Thursday February 27th.
He was born to Harvey and Verona Schneider on February 16, 1925 in Brookings, Oregon. However, Harvey was at a very young age when the family moved to Sandy, Oregon. He graduated from Sandy High School in 1943. Directly out of High school Harvey joined the Navy, and served in the Navy until 1946 as a Pharmacist creating his nickname of “Doc.” After the military Harvey prided himself in his college education. Starting at Oregon State and graduating with his degree in Biology from the University of Oregon. He continued his college education while working at Reynolds Aluminum as a Chemist. He attended Portland State University for seven years of night school and achieved his degree in Chemistry and became a senior Chemist at Reynolds. He worked 32 years at Reynolds before retiring.
Harvey met the love of his life Laura “Alene” Cawvey and they married November 23, 1954. Harvey and Alene raised their three sons living in Sandy their entire marriage.
Harvey was involved in a number of organizations in the Sandy community including: Police Department, Fire Department, Design Review Board, City Council, The Dad’s Club, and more. Harvey’s biggest focus was his family. He enjoyed his home up toward Mt Hood living next to his two sons ,spending time with his grandchildren, and fishing the Sandy River.
Harvey is survived by his wife Alene Schneider, his brother Dean Schneider, his 2 sons Don Schneider and Jeff Schneider, his 2 grandchildren Travis Schneider and Sommer Andrews, his 2 step grandchildren Andrew Brown and Benjamin Brown, and his 2 great grandchildren Autumn Andrews and Trayson Schneider. Harvey was preceded in death by his son Robert “Lynn” Schneider, and sister Janice Strom.
