Herbert Sandercock passed away peacefully in Sandy, OR. He was born to Darley Wilbur and Henrietta Wiltsie Sandercock in Portland, Oregon. Herbert attended Parkrose High School then transferred to Benson High School. His senior year he joined the Navy. First on a submarine, then to the U.S.S. Eugene destroyer, earning the Occupation Award in World War II. He was a fast pitch pitcher for the U.S. Navy. His best friend in the Navy was a knuckle ball pitcher, Richard Jones. Dick took Herb home to Ohio and there he met the love of his life, Dick’s sister, Jeanette Williams. After an honorable discharge, Herb and Jeanette were married Feb 25, 1950. They recently celebrated their 71st anniversary.
Herb and Jeanette moved to Portland Oregon where their daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) was born. Jobs were scarce and with a job proposal they moved back to Mansfield, Ohio where sons Clifford and David were born. They moved back to Sandy in 1955. In 1956 they purchased the property that became the Sandercock Blueberry Farm. Son, James (Michael) completed the family.
Herbert was a lather by trade and served as president of the Plaster’s Board. He eventually became the Project Manager for Westwood Construction, building many 7-11 stores and the Lloyd Center.
Herbert was one of the founding fathers of the Sandy VFW, also the Boring Golf course. You could find him running chains for the Sandy football team, bowling, golfing with a 1 handicap and playing guitar for the Damascus Century celebration, family Christmas celebrations and family reunions.
Herbert is survived by his wife Jeanette, daughter Cynthia (Cindy) and her husband Roy, sons Clifford (Cliff) and his wife Patti, James (Michael) and his wife Amanda. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son David, his granddaughter, Kristi, his sisters Ruth and Dorothy, brothers, Wilbur, Walt, Harold, Ralph, Bob, Jack and baby Clifford.
