Former Sandy resident Hilda Nielsen, died in Portland on March 23, 2011. She was 92.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Monday, March 28, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Sandy Ridge Cemetery.
She was born Hilda Ruth Hylton on December 3, 1918 in Hollywood, California to Thomas W. and Lulu (Nelson) Hylton. She attended schools in California, Idaho, and in 1927 was in Cathlamet, Washington until 1930 when they moved to Eugene. While her mother was working as a cook in lumber camp at Tillamook, she met her future husband.
On September 6, 1936, she was married to Walter Harold Clark in Salem. They lived in Colton where they began their family. In 1945 they went to Idanha, Oregon where they operated a dairy farm. In 1947 they moved to Portland and in 1949 came to Sandy where they finished raising their 3 daughters.
She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling, hunting, camping and spending time in Arizona. Harold preceded her in death in 1979.
In 1992, Hilda married Alexander “Alex” Nielsen in Auburn, Washington. They made their home in Sandy where Hilda continued being active in her church and the Sandy Senior Center. Alex preceded her in death in 1999.
Hilda was devout to her faith and Church, loved Bible Studies and until she was in her 80’s, visited those who were shut-ins and elderly. She also spent time oil painting.
Surviving are her daughters, Lu Grimm of Stevensville, Montana, Ruth Taylor of Cook, Washington and Jean Pierce of Woodland, Washington; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contribution to Immanuel Lutheran Church Youth Fund.
