Howard Leroy Sexton, 93, went home to be with the Lord Jesus on November 9th 2016. Howard was surrounded by his loving family in his home at Avamere Assisted Living.
Howard was born in Heavener, Oklahoma September 10th, 1923.
When he was a boy, his family moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, where his father worked for Southern Pacific Railroad.
Howard joined the U.S. Navy in August of 1942; he served on the USS Barnes as a Quartermaster 2nd Class.
Howard married Viola May Wright in 1944 and had three children, Daniel, Jerrold and Susan and raised them in Southern California.
In 1968, Howard met his soulmate, Margaret Polhamus and they married on May 30, 1969.
Margaret had seven children with four still living at home Susan, Sharon, Marsha and Timothy, two of which he adopted. The other three children: James, Philip and Shirley were already grown.
In 1974, Howard brought his family back to Oregon and both Howard and Margaret worked at Boeing of Portland.
They moved to Sandy in 1985, where they made their permanent home.
Howard and Margaret had a great zest for life, square dancing, traveling across the country and marking every city on a map, camping, and later being very active performing with the Sandy Silver Tones at the Sandy Senior Center.
Howard and Margaret attended Sandy Baptist Church. Margaret went home to be with Jesus January 14, 2012
Howard is preceded in death by Wife Margaret Sexton, Son’s Philip W. Barrett and James G. Barrett, Daughters; Susan Profit and Shirley Hans.
Howard is survived by Daniel Sexton of Carlsbad, California, Jerrold Sexton of Hemet, California, Susan Miller of Lyman, Wyoming, Sharon Shillinger of Marietta, Georgia, Marsha Messner of Sandy, Oregon, Timothy Sexton of Sandy, Oregon, and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
